The M Phil
Course run by the Department (started in 1998) has the following objectives.
Ø
To equip the students with an in-depth knowledge in
research and research methodology in Library and Information Science;
Ø
To equip students in methods of teaching in Library and
information Science.
Eligibility
for Admission
The
minimum qualification for admission to the M Phil is a second class M.L.I.Sc.
Degree of the university of Kerala or a degree recognised as equivalent thereto
with not less than 50% marks. Relaxation in the minimum marks is allowed in the
case of candidates belonging to Schduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other
Backward Communities, as per the Government rules in force from time to time.

DETAILED SYLLABUS
Mode
of Instruction
Instruction
methods comprise lectures, assignments, library work, seminars and tutorials.
Students have to work on assignments given to them and make presentations. They
are also expected to chair seminar sessions of the B L I Sc and M L I Sc
Classes.
Assessment and Evaluation
Students
are assessed through the examinations conducted at the end of each semester. The
minimum for a pass is 50% marks in each paper. Those who score 60% or more will
be graded as ‘A’ and 50% to 60% will be graded as ‘B’
